Shannon’s blood patch held up and she remained headache free. She received her last chemo infusion (quick one…only 15 minutes) the night of the 22nd. All of the doctors rounded in the morning and no news. We also met with the Clinical Pharmacist and he went over all of Shannon’s home meds and we also scheduled the delivery of those meds from the specialty pharmacy. I’ll have to continue giving her a subcutaneous injection at home that helps her produce more white blood cells.

After that, we basically waited around all day for IR to come and get her for the line removal. She had the Double Lumen Tunneled Central Line in her chest. The Oncology Team wanted it removed before discharge to reduce the possibility of infections at home.

A Physician Assistant named Duy came up from IR to assess her line. He said they would do their best to squeeze her into the schedule. Once it got past 2pm, we weren’t very confident that they were coming to get her. We heard IR has a 2pm cut-off time. We pretty much accepted that we were staying another night. Around 430pm, Duy the PA showed up again. He had a handful of supplies with him. He came to take the line out at the bedside instead of her having to go down to IR. It was a bit painful for her because of the Dacron cuff that adheres to the tissue and helps keep the line in. Duy had to give it a real good tug but finally was able to remove the line. Shannon didn’t seem to mind the temporary pain, she was just happy to get the line out.

About an hour later our nurse came in with Discharge paperwork and I headed to get the car from the garage.

We picked up a cake and a gift on the way home for our son Preston. It was his 20th birthday yesterday. We were thankful to get out and get home on his birthday. We were able to have a family meal last night and enjoy a slice of cake too. Overall a good day!
