Shannon was NPO since midnight last night for her line placement this morning. She slept pretty good last night. She showered this morning and was looking all pretty when they took her to Interventional Radiology for the line placement. I was thinking she’d only be gone maybe one to two hours, however she was gone a solid four hours. I was starting to get worried. She said mostly she was just waiting, they had orders for a PICC line, Shannon was having to explain that her doctor wanted her to get a central line in her chest. There was a bit of confusion and some of the staff was being unprofessional in IR. I’ll be addressing that with hospital administration and the Director of IR at some point.
She finally came back to the room around 1130am. She was a little annoyed about IR and how long it took, but she wasn’t in any pain. They placed a double lumen CVC (Central Venous Catheter) in her chest on the left side. (Picture attached to this post.)
They’ll be able to give all of her IV medication thru this line and draw blood from it.
While Shannon was downstairs in IR, Dr Abuasab (Oncologist) and his Residents stopped by. He was very friendly, had good bedside manner and explained that he’s just waiting on final results from the bone marrow biopsy. He said the PET Scan showed active cancer in the lymph nodes and bone marrow, but nothing in any organs.
He will discuss a more detailed plan with us once there’s an official final diagnosis but he mentioned she will start off with chemotherapy and at some point receive a bone marrow transplant (BMT). He said there’s a whole team that specializes in just BMT that will talk to us at some point soon. One of the nurses mentioned that Shannon will most likely be next door at Methodist hospital for the Bone Marrow Transplant. Methodist is also affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine and they have a dedicated BMT Unit.
Pain control has been pretty good today. Shannon ate dinner from the hot bar at Whole Foods. (I ran over there this afternoon, 15 min away.) She’s sticking to a high protein low carb diet. Shes mostly eating lean meats and vegetables, berries, nuts and also trying to keep everything Organic when possible.
We finally finished watching Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. It was good but you just can’t beat the original. Time to rest.
Thanks James!! I love this and I love y’all!! I continue to pray but Shannon is strong and feisty!! 😘
