On July 1st we visited our PCP Dr. Hoang and decided to head straight to Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center aftewards. We went to St. Lukes because our original suspicion was that Shannon had Lymphoma. That was the potential diagnosis made from the outpatient ER where Shannon had sevearl CT Scans done. Because we thought it was lymphoma, we chose an in-network physician named Dr. Diamond. Dr. Diamond is an Oncologist who specializes in lymphomas and he has priviledges at Baylor St. Lukes Medical Center. We sat in the ER at St. Lukes for about 14 hours. One of the triage nurses did a quick assessment on Shannon and told her “the doctor will probably just prescribe you some pain meds and send you home.” I can’t imagine where we’d be if that had happened. Luckily the ER doctor, Kathryn Fisher MD, thought otherwise and after assessing Shannon, she decided to admit her. She was very personable, caring, empathetic and smart. She said “don’t worry, we’re going to get you admitted so we can find out what’s going on.” It was such a relief to us, knowing that she took this seriously and Shannon was going to get the treatment she needs. After our long wait in the ER, Shannon was finally given a bed on the 16th floor (16 Tower).
