The Hematology/Oncology resident stopped by early this morning to check on Shannon. No biopsy results,  no news yet.
Shannon had Chic-fil-A for breakfast.

Around noon, the attending Dr G stopped by. She looked over available results but no pathology results back from the biopsy yet. She said she really wants those results and is going to contact the pathologist herself to get an update. Dr G also had a heart to heart talk with Shannon. She shared a little about a previous diagnosis of cancer that she had several years ago and gave Shannon a little pep talk. She’s a very sweet and caring doctor. Dr G gave Shannon permission to leave the 16th floor to go for a walk and get out of her room for a while.

330pm : The Oncology team, Dr Diamond and 2 residents, stopped by the room. He said he’s been speaking to the pathologist about the needle biopsy. The results are looking like lymphoma but they’re not 100% sure and also not sure which type. He said it’s leaning towards an “aggressive” type. That might sound bad but he said the aggressive ones respond better to chemotherapy and can usually be cured vs just put into remission.  The more slow growing lymphomas might need to be treated again in 10 years or so.

Dr Diamond really wants to get an entire lymph node surgically removed for a more definitive diagnosis.  He’s going to speak to the ENT service, Ear Nose and Throat surgical team. We are expecting a visit from them today or tomorrow.  Hopefully they can get her on the surgical schedule for Monday.
