Shannon had a rough night. Her pain is increasing as the lymph nodes increase in size. To me it feels like there’s also a lot of swelling and inflammation around the lymph nodes in her neck. Her attending prescribed a powerful IV pain medication that she can have every 4 hours…and an anti-anxiety med twice a day.
She’s just been sleeping, waking up for pain meds, then back to sleep. She’s doesn’t have much of an appetite. She’s only requesting fruit and protein shakes.
One of the ENT residents stopped by this morning. No news, she just confirmed that Shannon is still on the surgical schedule for tomorrow morning around 10 or 11am
2pm update:
Shannon got up, showered, changed clothes and walked 4 laps around the unit.
7pm update:
Hematology/Oncology- Dr Diamond and his residents stopped by this afternoon. He said the pathologist promised there will be solid results tomorrow from the needle biopsy they did this past Wednesday. He said he’s going to tell the ENT Surgical Team to hold off on surgery until they get the results. If the results confirm a diagnosis, then surgery will likely be canceled. No need to subject her to unnecessary invasive procedures.
He said once a diagnosis is confirmed, we will discuss treatment and start right away while she’s still in the hospital. She also had an MRI of the brain this afternoon.
She finally got hungry and ate dinner as well.
