Monday Aug. 9th

Shannon had a cell count check this morning and then we met with Manila the NP. While we were waiting for her to get her blood drawn, we overheard two men talking in the lab waiting area. One of them said he was a recording artist in Nashville. So the other guy took a picture with him. When that guy got up to get his labs drawn, Shannon asked if she could take a picture with him too. He said “sure” and they took the pic that you see on this post. His name was “Cornbread” but he said we could call him “Bread” for short. Too funny. He was super nice and we ended up sitting next to him while wating in the infusion suite. We talked about the recent hurricane, the current Gulf of Mexico tropical weather, and ghosts. LOL. He plays at local shows around Houston and other parts of Texas and apparently he has an album coming out soon. Check him out.

Shannon’s white count is almost non-existant so she is very susceptable to infections right now. Her hemoglobin and platelets are also getting low but not low enough for a transfusion just yet. After we met with Manila, we went down to the 5th floor because Shannon had a scheduled chemotherapy infusion. It’s actually the last IV chemo drug that officially completes Cycle 2A. The first time when we did Cycle 1A, she stayed inpatient the whole time. Since she was doing well, then let her go home and then do this chemo drug as an outpatient. It’s given about 4 days after the other chemo drugs. So there’s no sense in her staying in the hospital 4 or 5 more days just to get an IV chemo drug that takes 15 minutes to infuse.

Even though the drug only takes 15 minutes to infuse, we were at the clinic and infusion suite almost all day. There’s a lot of waiting around, then you go back to an infusion room, then wait some more, finally get an IV started, then they have to check the chemo (2 nurses), and also they have to give her the pre-medications. Her nurse was really good, his name was Edwin. He said he was from Denver and Shannon was wearing her Breckinridge sweatshirt today. So, we had a long conversation about Colorado and the mountains. We’ll be back in those mountains as soon as Shannon is cured of this mess. All went well with the infusion, no side effects and Shannon is officially finished with Cycle 2A.
