Tuesday the 13th was a rough day for Shannon. She was really feeling bad from the chemotherapy she had just received over the weekend in the hospital. She was feeling achy, nauseous, and tired all day. I gave her the PRN meds for pain and nausea which helped some. I eventually gave her a new one they prescribed for her that is for nausea, but also helps with sleep and anxiety. She passed out early and slept hard all through the night. She woke up on Wednesday the 14th feeling much better.
Not much to report on the 14th. Shannon did some LIVE TikTok sessions and gained some more followers. She also met a girl that has the same exact diagnosis as her. I believe she was 34 and in San Antonio if I’m not mistaken. This girl was diagnosed back in February, is in remission and waiting for her bone marrow transplant. Shannon was excited to meet her on TikTok and I think it also gives her hope knowing that this other girl is in remission.
Thursday the 15th, was cell check day (labs) and a doctor visit. Dr. Abuasab is still out of the country so we met with the NP Manila. Shannon’s immune system is OK at the moment. Her white blood cells and ANC (Absolute Neutrophil Count) were within normal limits. One of her liver enzymes was slightly elevated so Manila is having us hold off on a couple of Shannon’s daily meds and then we’ll recheck labs on Monday. Since her white count and ANC were good, we went to eat lunch after the doctor appointment. I took her to Cleburne Cafeteria in the West University area. It’s an old-school cafeteria that started in downtown Houston in 1941. It moved to it’s current location in 1969. The cafeteria burned down in 1990 and again in 2016. They rebuilt both times and luckily it’s still here for us to enjoy. https://cleburnecafeteria.com/

Friday the 16th, we had to be at Baylor St. Lukes Med Center around 9am. Shannon had an outpatient intrathecal chemotherapy procedure this morning at 10am. She got checked in and then it was a lot of waiting around. We also confirmed that both of her favorite IR doctors were working today. That relieved a lot of her anxiety about the procedure. It took a while, mostly waiting, but they got her procedure done and no complaints from Shannon. She said Dr. Fahrtash did great as always. She had to lay flat for one hour, then they released her. I got her home and then headed back out to see some patients for work. We’re looking forward to a restful weekend and then back to the clinic on Monday and Thursday this coming week.
