Today was a good day. Shannon had her 1st chemo infusion late last night and another one this morning. No issues with either infusion. She had no nausea and her pain is much better today. She probably had her best night of sleep last night.
Dr Fakess (the current Attending. They do 2 weeks on/2 weeks off) stopped by this morning. Hes a super night guy. He said he is looking at her labs daily and will check on her daily, but he’s basically “in the passenger seat.” He said Oncology/Hematology is in the “driver’s seat.”
Dr Abuasab (Oncologist) stopped by as well. Due to it being the weekend, her 1st intrathecal chemo will be Monday in IR (Interventional Radiology). I asked him when he thinks this leukemia started brewing. He said due its aggressiveness, probably only 6 to 8 weeks before she had the painful swollen lymph nodes in her neck. So this disease came on really fast. I was just wondering if we could have noticed something much sooner and diagnosed it sooner. So probably not, especially because Shannon did not present with the classic symptoms: extreme fatigue, drenching night sweats, fevers, skin rash or abnormal lab results. Her only symptom was swollen lymph nodes which eventually became painful.
We moved rooms today. We are still on the same floor but now in a corner room. It’s bigger and I’ve got a flat “bed” to sleep on vs a recliner. I dropped off our dirty clothes at a really nice dry cleaners that does wash n fold. I also ran to whole foods for Shannon’s meals and grabbed an ice chest to keep our food cold in the room.
**NO FLOWERS PLEASE **
The nursing staff has advised us against having flowers or plants in the room. They can harbor mold, bacteria or parasites on the plant or in the soil. Shannon’s immune system is about to be weakened from the chemotherapy dropping her cell counts. Thank you to those who have already sent some but we will have to remove them in the next few days.
Shannon is about to start another chemo infusion in a few minutes (it’s 11:30 pm right now). Our nurse is just waiting on pharmacy to send it up. I suspect we will have another good night.
You go Shannon kick that shits ass!! 💪💪. I know you got this girl I love you
